Ballymascanlon Golf Club Louth

“Senior golfers delight”
5 of 5 stars

One of our senior outings and what a great choice! The golf course is beautifully manicured in a way that it was hard to lose a ball. Scoring reflected the challenge of this course but the meal and the staff who were absolutely top class levelled things out. That the hotel gave us an extra prize was a welcome touch. Other hotels take note. We will be going back again and again.

Good Morning,

I would like to thank and complement you all again for making our weekend so fantastic.  Tim and I are members of the Maralin Golf Society, we stayed and played Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th Sept.  All our arrangements were perfect, please pass on our thanks again to Gerry and Neil in the golf shop for all their help and attention.  All the staff were so professional and helpful and made us feel very welcome.  The food and service in the restaurant was amazing, as always.  It is very obvious how proud you all are of your hotel and golf course.

Many thanks,
Tim & Kate Allen - 21st September 2015

Dear Oliver,

On behalf the Captain and members of Old O'Connell's Golf Society, I want to formally thank you and your staff for ensuring another most enjoyable and successful visit to Ballymascanlon for our Captain's Day.

For my own part, I always find everybody in Ballymascanlon most helpful and co-operative, from the time I make the first phone call, or send the first e-mail, right through to check-out time. I know I speak for everybody who attended this year when I say that satisfaction was 100% - accommodation, food, golf facilities and, most of all, top class service from all staff.

Please pass on thanks from all in Old O'Connell's to all staff members in Ballymasacanlon.

family golf day John Q”

It was the week of the Irish open golf ,thousands were on the road north to Newcastle co.Down to support an Irish winner. However our lads did not shine and we decided to play ourselves and cut our viewing on the final day.But where were we to get a golf course at such short notice?.We made a few calls to no avail until we had a brainwave. What about that 5 star hotel complex and private golf course we passed by on our way up just north of Dundalk was it not?.There would be no golf competition on there! and there were some good reviews.A quick call was made and to our great relief the golf superintendent Gerry gave us a tee time that was perfect for our journey back home.As we drove the tree lined avenue between the first and second fairways we could see we were in for a real treat as the course looked in pristine condition provoking our category one player to exclaim ;I think I can shoot a 69 here lads!!! Having studied the course over a coffee and sandwich in the sporting club lounge Gerry sent us on our way.The first six holes were very good with no rough but a lot of decidious trees to test your driving.0ur C1 player was level par.The signature holes are the 7th and 8th the former demanding a pin point accurate 2nd shot and the latter an arrow like drive. On the 9th tee our C1 player was now 4 over and very quiet as he faced the 9th a long par 4 dogleg out of reach into a stiff breese. The second nine is equally challenging and has a wonderful display of flora, fauna, and historical features. Our overall experience was one of the most enjoyable parkland courses no lost balls but bring your fishing net for retrieving your ball from the crystal clear streams.A word of caution do not use the stream stones they are very slippery!!!.all in all it is our mini Augusta and very reasonable even at weekends

"just returned from our 12th year at this fantastic hotel. We are a group of 14 golfers of various ages and ability and we just love this hotel. The staff, facilities, food and golf course are all excellent. From the moment we arrive until we leave we cannot fault a thing. The staff are extremely friendly, polite and bend over backwards to make sure your stay is as pleasent as possible. The golf course is kept pristine and Gerry and his staff in the pro shop are always willing to accomodate your every need. The breakfast is superb and the golfers meal we have on a friday is excellent and fantastic value for money. Again all the staff in the restaurant are polite and courteous. The rooms are spacious, bright and very well maintained..our room had a very pleasent view over the courtyard.

The atmosphere in the hotel is always vibrant but not noisy. There is a seperate wing in the hotel where weddings and functions take place and is always busy which is not surpising considering the magnificent grounds they have.

Dundalk race track is approx 5 mins away in a taxi and the beautiful village of Carlingford is approx 20 mins away..well worth a visit. I can honestly say that we will be returning year after year to this hotel.

"Just a quick note of thanks from all the lads in our Society, we had a great day on the Golf Course (a good challenge) we then had an even better night!.
I cannot speak more highly about the hospitality shown to us by your staff in all areas.  We had a beautiful meal in The Plunkett Room and I was particularly impressed with the attention to detail, lots of positive comments about the quality of the food.
We finished off on Sunday morning with a lovely, fresh breakfast which set us up nicely for the journey home.
Again our sincere thanks and would you please pass on my regards to Mr. Oliver Quinn (a true gent).

"I won't bore you with too much detail here. Suffice to say, this is a hotel that you should seriously consider if you and in the Dundalk, Ireland area.
Ballymascanlon house hotel lives up to its reputation with first class facilities and staff, all the way.
The hotel, the fabulous expansive grounds, kept immaculately and the sheer beauty of the setting was so relaxing and peaceful.
You have a beautiful Golf course just outside your door and some lovely walks, which include a beautifully preserved Dolmen just across a field.
Staff are very attentive and helpful; the dinner menus are to die for - scrumptious mmmm.
Our room was very very good and beautifully fitted out. Great bathroom facilities with all the expected extras.
Take a bow Ballymascanlon, worth every penny . . . or should that be cent!!"

Once again Had the best stay at Ballymascanlon! This is my 2nd stay and I would recommend 2 anyone. From start to finish the experience was second to none. Rooms are large, very comfortable and well worth the money asked, breakfasts/lunches/dinners are by far superior quality to many I have had in the past and served by exremely proffesional waiting staff - I only wish I had taken some individual names of some of the waiting staff who served me to name them personally, because they provided a sterling service and would love for them to be rewarded for the service provided. All in all this is a fantastic, family run hotel who deserves our custom, give them a go, and I am sure you will not be dissapointed! Keep it up Ballymascanlon, we will be back next year without a doubt!

Have been coming to the Ballymascanlon for 4 years and it has never failed to impress. The setting of the hotel is magnificient. The hospitality and courtesy received is second to none. The Hotel continues to maintain a high standard - great staff and service. The food is excellent and of a good quality. My room (single) was bright, spacious and very comfortable. The facilities on offer to guests are many and varied e.g. walking, golf, tennis and leisure suite. The golf course is very well maintained and a pleasure to play. Booked again for next year.

We arrived at The Ballymac on Easter Sunday with our three small (tired) girls to be presented with Easter eggs at reception(We had inquired prior to arrival was there an Easter egg hunt...)the staff could not have been nicer(its a family run hotel and each time we have stayed have always met one of them and they are so genuine and interested in how you are enjoying your stay with them) helping us with our luggage and checking us in quickly to a lovely room (227) looking onto the gardens and courtyard, the cot was set up and the room was beautiful and airy.We spent most of the afternoon in the pool, perfect temperature, and great for kids, thoroughly enjoyed.
Breakfast was fantastic, lovely dining room and plenty of everything,I do agree that dinner at 42.50 is expensive but the bar food is excellent as is room service... We had a brilliant stay as usual, there's just something homely about this special place and we cant wait to return.

We have a small Golf society based in Co Armagh and we take a couple of outings each year. The group comprises guys from N. Ireland and our friends and colleagues in ROI.

The general feedback on our society day in June 2011 at The Ballymascanlon hotel was just fantastic. The course altough not overly long (Thats a good thing!) was just kept to the most immaculatye standard. The service and friendliess at the pro shop on arrival was superb & the meal when we finiished was great with the most attentive service. This is a definite on our calendar for next year with some of the guys planning individual trips before then... Highly recommended for a vist

10th Annual Trip by Bishopsgate Golfers.
‘We just love everything about this area, the scenery, the hotel here, the food, and of course the people. It’s a weekend we’d never miss,’ said organiser Martin Burke. The group arrived on a Wednesday after sailing from Troon to Larne and making their way across the border.

‘I’ve actually been coming to stay at the Ballymascanlon for the last 12 years, but as a group its our tenth year. Word has spread so much about this area that I have a waiting list at home of guys who want to join! He added that nothing has deterred these Louth loving golf addicts from their trip, not an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease, nor treacherous ferry crossings from Scotland, not even a stifling recession. ‘In fact we have two guys on the trip year this year who were supposed to be in Spain, but with flights cancelled due to the volcanic ash, they decided to join us. I told them I think they’d have a better time in Louth!’

The yearly visit is ‘something we save for every month,’ said Martin. ‘Nearly as soon as we got off the boat back home we start putting money into an account for the following year.’ Not content to rest on their laurels during their five day stay, the Scots even entertained the locals by bringing along a number of musicians and a magician.

‘We have a few guys who play guitar, and another guy who brought his whole karaoke system with him. So wherever we go, we entertain the locals, and have had a few great nights out here,’ added Martin. Along with their love of the golf course, they ventured out to the Cooley Peninsula, and sampled the bars and restaurants of Carlingford. ‘Its an incredible place, stunning scenery, definitely worth coming back to year after year.’
